Our last stop from our little ambitious Indochina tour was Bangkok,
Thailand. From Siem Reap, Cambodia, we took a bus going to Poipet which
is the entry point to Thailand. After the immigration which was a hassle
as there were a lot of tourists in line, we transferred to a van. Since
Bangkok is also best known for its worst traffic, the trip took almost 7
hours in total. We arrived at Novotel Hotel at around 5:00PM already.
We immediately headed out to explore the city for shopping spots after taking some rest. We looked for the Platinum Fashion mall as it was highly recommended by some of our friends.
Apparently, we didn't got what we expected from the shopping malls. I would say the items were still pricey compare to PH. So when we got tired, we decided to try the night market.
Although I was already exhausted from the full day's activities, Cindy insisted that we should go and try Bangkok's night life. So we went to Vertigo & Moon Bar located at the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Hotel. It is a roof top bar that offers a stunning 360 degrees view of the city. Seemingly obvious, the bar is famous among tourists so the drinks were a bit expensive. Nevertheless, you pay for its location so I would still recommend it when in Bangkok.
On
our last day of tour, we explored the Grand Palace located in the heart
of Bangkok. It has some of the most sacred places in Bangkok so it is
really a must see for everyone. Just do take note that they have a very
strict dress code.
Within the complex of Grand Palace are some Thailand's government offices and the very famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Because
of the CNY holiday, there were really a lot of tourists. We decided to
go to Khao San Road for lunch and shopping. Khao San Road is tagged as
the centre of backpacking universe. There were a lot of budget-friendly
hostels. The shops along the street sells cheap clothes, handcrafts,
wide range of souvenirs and a many more.
Though
we only had more than 24 hours stay in Bangkok, we still had a good
time exploring the city and talking to some of the locals. Next time,
I'll make sure to spend more time for food tripping and of course,
shopping. I know there are still a lot to see. :)
