  • Look For Raine
It was one of those stressful days when we decided to book our tickets to this very spontaneous trip. It would be CNY holidays and we've nothing to do in the city so without any research or whatsoever, we thought of doing a tri-city Indochina tour for 4 days - from Singapore to Vietnam to Cambodia to Thailand and back to Singapore.

But then, a month before the trip, we realized, it was almost impossible for us to explore each city as travel time would take hours and hours. Despite the time constraints, we were able to make a decent itinerary. See below!

As you can see, Ho Chi Minh was our starting point from Singapore. We arrived there around 10:00AM and ate lunch.
Vietnamese food mainly consists of green vegetables.
Word of caution when in Ho Chi Minh: streets are not very pedestrian-friendly. You should really be very careful when crossing the streets especially since their main form of transportation are motorcycles. We were actually close to having an accident and people there are not

When we were looking for the bus terminal, we passed by the flower festival. There were different kinds of flowers everywhere and they were all so pretty!!

Honestly, it's like almost two days of the trip were spent on transporting from one place to another. But nevertheless, it was still fun and not bad as our first backpack trip. Haha! See the stories on the below links. :)

Bangkok, Thailand
Siem Reap, Cambodia

Our last stop from our little ambitious Indochina tour was Bangkok, Thailand. From Siem Reap, Cambodia, we took a bus going to Poipet which is the entry point to Thailand. After the immigration which was a hassle as there were a lot of tourists in line, we transferred to a van. Since Bangkok is also best known for its worst traffic, the trip took almost 7 hours in total. We arrived at Novotel Hotel at around 5:00PM already.

We immediately headed out to explore the city for shopping spots after taking some rest. We looked for the Platinum Fashion mall as it was highly recommended by some of our friends.

Apparently, we didn't got what we expected from the shopping malls. I would say the items were still pricey compare to PH. So when we got tired, we decided to try the night market.

Although I was already exhausted from the full day's activities, Cindy insisted that we should go and try Bangkok's night life. So we went to Vertigo & Moon Bar located at the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Hotel. It is a roof top bar that offers a stunning 360 degrees view of the city. Seemingly obvious, the bar is famous among tourists so the drinks were a bit expensive. Nevertheless, you pay for its location so I would still recommend it when in Bangkok.

On our last day of tour, we explored the Grand Palace located in the heart of Bangkok. It has some of the most sacred places in Bangkok so it is really a must see for everyone. Just do take note that they have a very strict dress code.
Sawat dee kap from Bangkok!
Within the complex of Grand Palace are some Thailand's government offices and the very famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Because of the CNY holiday, there were really a lot of tourists. We decided to go to Khao San Road for lunch and shopping. Khao San Road is tagged as the centre of backpacking universe. There were a lot of budget-friendly hostels. The shops along the street sells cheap clothes, handcrafts, wide range of souvenirs and a many more.
You haven't been to Thailand if you didn't try the very famous Pat Thai!

Tried the traditional Thai massage and it was sooooo good!
Foot massage naman this time!
Though we only had more than 24 hours stay in Bangkok, we still had a good time exploring the city and talking to some of the locals. Next time, I'll make sure to spend more time for food tripping and of course, shopping. I know there are still a lot to see. :)

See our itinerary in this link! :)

Hello Raine,

Happy Quarter Life Birthday!

Today is a milestone. And like what others may have perceive it, you are an adult so feel comfort in knowing that even though some things don't go the way you want them to, you have come out strong and resilient. I am so proud to what you have become, to what you have reached.

God has been so good to you for the past two decades and a half. Your life was indeed full of blessings. Continue to dream of wondrous things.

Stop loathing. Stop self-pitying. There is so much more to see. You are very blessed to be in that dark little self-made corner of yours. Go out. See the world. Make friends. Smile a lot. Be cheerful.
Please know that there are still a lot of things to see, people to meet, places to visit, books to read, music to listen, adventures to try, silly things to laugh about, kisses and hugs to give, kindness to share. Life is short to mope in the corner and get sad for nothing. Know that you are loved and valued by many, especially your family. Surround yourself with positivity. Hope for the best.

Again, happy birthday. Continue to make your life a story worth telling. See the world with your stained-glass eyes, with your inquisitive heart. And believe me when I say, much better days are coming.

Let's go carpe diem each and every day of this year. Happy Birthday. xx

With much love and for love,
Your 25-year old self

Officially 25 and on my happy place!

Disclaimer: I wrote this a week before my birthday and didn’t got the time to post it until mid April
