A Quick Maginhawa Food Trip

I am no foodie nor a chef or a cook. But considering I'm a huge food lover and I haven't eaten at Maginhawa is, I reckon, a shame. Fortunately, last Monday we decided to try it out before we stress ourselves at work.

Maginhawa is a lengthy street at Brgy. Teacher's Village, Quezon City, Philippines. It used to be a residential place, but now has become famous as a classified food hub in the metro. The great range of restaurants offering a variety of cuisines makes Maginhawa a perfect place to chill out and go food hopping.

How to Go to Maginhawa

For commuters, you can take a bus, jeepney or FX to Fairview then alight at Philcoa along Commonwealth Avenue. Then there are tricycles near Bank of Commerce that will take you to Maginhawa Street.
Now here's a roll of the restaurants that we managed to try last Monday afternoon!

Stoners Soul Food to Go

This newly opened diner is located at Z Compound, a collective of restaurants along Malingap Street adjacent to Maginhawa. We actually wanted to eat at Burger Hub but it is close every Monday. Nevertheless, Stoners had been good enough to serve as an appetizer for that delicious afternoon.

Stoners specializes in deep fry comfort foods like fish & chips, buffalo wings, wedges, fried oreos, jalapeno poppers and corn dogs. Price ranges from Php60.00 to Php180.00.

Fish & Wedges, Php 125.00

Fried Oreos, Php 60.00 (4pcs)

Gayuma ni Maria

"Maria's Magic Potion" - that's basically what the name is when translated. As the name implies, you will be offered here a list of Filipino cuisines named after love potions, naughty chics and silly appellations. The restaurant's interior itself is also very entertaining and warm. Perfect for couples and lovers alike!

We tried their best sellers Rock Me Baby BBQ Pork Ribs and Hotsie Pasta. The roasted BBQ Ribs were gone in less than 5 minutes! The meat was so tender and juicy, perfect for its flavorsome sauce. Then the Hotsie - a hot and naughty shrimp oil-based pasta paired with garlic pan de sal.

Hotsie, Php225.00

Rock me Rock Baby, Php265.00

BlackSoup Cafe & Artspace

For those art lovers who just want to chill out, BlackSoup cafe would be the awesome go-to place. BlackSoup is located right beside Van Gogh is Bipolar which is also close every Monday. The artsy design and comforting food make this place interesting. They have their weekly specials and from what I heard they are the ones who introduced the "Suspended Coffee" tradition here in the Philippines. Basically, the concept is that you will buy coffee or even sandwiches for those in need.

Upon entrance, you will be welcome by a stack of books, cool film posters and other art stuff

A grand piano is located on the corner, this one is actually still working!

The walls were full of art posters and abstract paintings; you'll be entertained by just looking at them.

We were a little full when we got here so we just ordered some dessert - mango turon and salted caramel cake. They tasted just right to feed our sugar-craving stomachs.

Cool Beans Library Cafe

This is my favorite amongst the places we visited. With the wide range of books available for reading, one can stick to this place for hours lost in reading. Also perfect for students who wants to study and those persons who wants to have a digital detox. Along with the selection of books is of course an array of good food at reasonable prices.

A day won't be enough to eat at all of the restaurants in Maginhawa. And there a lot of must-try.

Maginhawa is an adjective that when translated to Filipino means easy, convenient or refreshing. Now, with all that range of food choices, isn't Maginhawa so refreshing?! We are definitely going back here!
